Expressway To Yr Skull

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but when I do drink coffee it's Dunkin' Donuts (oh how I miss you) and certainly not Starbucks. Apparently Sonic Youth disagree with my taste buds as June 10th sees the release of Hits Are For Squares released by Starbucks Music. The compilation features songs hand-picked by friends of Sonic Youth from the music and film world, plus one new track entitled "Slow Revolution". I love Sonic Youth as much as the next gal, and I know the band is really down to earth (one time outside of the Knitting Factory Thurston asked me who was playing that night, like he was some regular guy and not the rock god he is), but seriously, Starbucks??

01 “Bull In The Heather” (covered by Ladies Who Lunch)(selected by Catherine Keener)

05 “Disappearer” (selected by Portia de Rossi)

13 “World Looks Red” (selected by Chloë Sevigny)
14 “Expressway To Yr Skull” (covered by Ryan Adams)(selected by the Flaming Lips)

As a bonus here are a few covers Sonic Youth have done that have absolutely nothing to do with this release.

"Computer Age" (Neil Young Cover)
'Touch Me I'm Sick" (Mudhoney Cover)
'That's All I Know (Right Now)" (Neon Boys Cover)

Made it back East, huh? Thanks for the post... Trans is probably my favorite Neil Young release (yeah, I'm stupid like that!), and I've liked Sonic Youth pretty well, so the two of them on one track is cool.

Come to think of it, the one time I saw Neil live (Ragged Glory tour, I believe), Sonic Youth were opening! And this drunken jackass in front of me kept hollaring throughout their set "Get off the stage! We want Neil!" The shmuck!

Anyhow, thanks again for the post.
